About Mermaid Studios
Where bold stories come alive
Established in 2012, Mermaid Studios Sdn. Bhd. is a Malaysian-based production company. The company focuses on creating young adult stories, tackling topics like girlhood, bullies and self-discovering journey that every young person goes through in their life.
Headed by Adriana Jasmay and Liyana Jasmay, two sisters who fell in love with story-telling since they were children. Growing up watching imported stories from the west, they wanted to tell their own local experience. Liyana Jasmay herself started acting at the tender age of 9 and won her first acting award at the age of 18.

In the span of 13 years, Mermaid Studios has produced 40 titles including one feature film, three OTT films and 17 TV dramas for Malaysian TV networks. Other works include TV magazinse, short films, music videos and digital content for YouTube.
Liyana Jasmay herself directed 23 out of the 40 titles since 2018. Her feature film debut will be the 41st project for Mermaid Studios, and the first of three teen-rage horror films planned to be filmed in the next four years.

Malaysian rom-com set in New York City.
Released in 2013, the first OTT film by Mermaid Studios is loved by Malaysian rom-com aficionados. Starring Liyana Jasmay herself and Bront Palarae, one of the most successful Malaysian actor in the SEA region.
The film is available to stream on Astro VOD. Written by Fairul Nizam and directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar.

Cikgu Vs Hantu
A couple of dead teachers thinking they are still alive.
Released in 2022, this is Mermaid Studios’ first horror adjacent title. The comedy element played a big part in making this a title a hit, with help from versatile Malaysian actors.
The film is available to stream on Astro VOD. Written by Faten Syamimie and directed by Liyana Jasmay.

Putri & Phrince
High-schoolers making mistakes on a daily basis.
Recently released in August 2025, the series is about a bunch of high-schoolers making their parents and teaches mad with their teenage shenanigans.
The series is now streaming on VIU. Written by Farah Bani and directed by Liyana Jasmay.

Bella & Jamie
Two best friends fight over the same guy. Classic love triangle drama.
Released in 2019, the first feature film by Mermaid Studios did not make much money at the box-office, but tremendously helped Mermaid Studios to be taken seriously in the Malaysian film industry.
The film is available to stream on Netflix. Written and directed by Fairul Nizam and Ghaz Abu Bakar.

Upcoming Projects
“Mermaid Studios has three horror features in the pipeline, to be produced and released in the next four years and targeted to be screened all over South East Asia.”
Set to film in November 2025, this film tells the story of former classmates who reunite for a good time but everything turns bloody when a supernatural element takes over and turns a fun hang out into a violent deadly night.
Liyana Jasmay’s feature debut has already created a buzz in the Malaysian film industry as her fans have been waiting for her next project. She is known for her fun loving persona but this time around, audience will get a peek into the dark side of her over-imaginative mind.
Moving Forward
Moving forward, Mermaid Studios is ready to explore co-production in South East Asia and beyond. We are looking forward to work with passionate professionals who share our vision.
Localising international theme to attract audiences will be the main focus for co-production effort in the coming years. Co-production is necessary for Mermaid Studios to widen the film’s market reach instead of just depending on Malaysian audiences.
